Outlook for Spring Baseball 2013

Bismarck State College men's baseball program has signed some of the best talent in North Dakota and South Dakota.  The Mystics played for the region championship this past season and played well at the end of the season which is the reason we are optimistic for the team we have assembled for this upcoming season.

We return 11 players from last year's squad which includes leading hitter Brad McArthur and Steve Serr, catcher. Tanner Schaf was our leadoff hitter and centerfielder, Tyler Schilling was our 4 hitter and 3rd baseman. Trevor Huck, 2nd baseman also played some short, Zach Smith who played 1st base and pitched, and Jordan Kenner who led us in wins and also played outfield and had a very good hitting season this summer during Legion ball. Aaron Berg pitched and played middle infield, Ramsey Crawford is a utility infielder and can play any position, Andrew Wertz played 3rd base, and Andrew Wickenheiser can play all 3 outfield spots.

We were very fortunate to sign some very good players from North Dakota including Tanner Dolbec, Beulah who was the Region 7 Senior Athlete of the Year and helped lead Beulah to the state high school championship. Justin McCloud, Bottineau, was one of the top pitchers in the state and was part of Bottineau High School team that made three straight trips to the state high school tournament. Alex Shields, Kindred, was part of the 2011 State B High School Championship team, Brock Krueger, Minot, was voted as All WDA team and also hit 400 for the Minot Vistas this summer. Ben Laufer, Hettinger, was selected as a member of the All Region team, Ty Bruner, Drake, was a member of the All Region Team, Jesse Henke, New Salem, was a two year starter for Washburn High School and they qualified for the state tourney the past two seasons. Tyler Mongeon, Bismarck, was a starting pitcher for the Century Patriots and the closer for the Bismarck Governors this summer.

Promising recruits from South Dakota include Chris Vinson, Sturgis, who was a top pitcher in the area. Alan Roth, Sturgis, was the leadoff hitter and can play anywhere on the field. Jhett Cihak, Sturgis, will help us add depth to the catching position and is a solid contact hitter. Hunter Smith, Piedmont, will help bring another bat to the lineup.  We feel we are in a good position to make a run at the regional championship in 2013 and very excited to get fall ball started.
