BISMARCK, N.D. - The Bismarck State College women's wrestling team took the mat against Division-II Jamestown (N.D.) on Thursday at the highly anticipated inaugural home dual for the program. The Mystics did not disappoint in front of a capacity crowd at the Armory, as those in attendance witnessed the first-ever home victory for the women's wrestling team at BSC, as they defeated the Jimmies 33-15.
The dual kicked off at 124 pounds after
Jennifer Verdin (103),
Hailyann Turner (110) and
Alyvia Ruiz (117) were all victorious as Jamestown forfeited the first three matches of the night.
Rei Ogden got the action started with a bang as she defeated Kiera Hagman by a 10-0 tech fall at the 1:01 mark.
Alexis Schneider (131) followed suit as she secured a win of her own against Nora Houglum with a 10-0 tech fall at the 1:55 mark, sending the students from her alma mater, Napoleon High School, into a frenzy.
Adrian Steidler (138) was up next, and her match with Abby Ewing was the first of the night to see a second period. The wait was well worth it for the home crowd as Steidler pinned Ewing at the 4:28 mark, the first home pinfall victory for the program.
Down 28-0, the Jimmies got on the board as they won by forfeit in the 145-pound weight class, which led the dual to its longest bout of the night.
Arionna Beatty (160) pinned Leah Willard at the 5:47 mark of an intense match that left just 13 seconds remaining on the clock.
Jamestown rallied late as they earned points after BSC forfeited the 180-pound weight class, and with Celia Jaeger's (207) pin of
Riley Cline. But the dual had been clinched by that point as the Mystics ended the night with a 33-15 victory.
The Mystics' next action will be less than 48 hours removed from Thursday's win, as they travel to Minot on Saturday, Nov. 22, to compete in the Beaver Bash Open beginning at 9 a.m.
Their next dual will be on Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Dickinson as they battle the Blue Hawks, in a match set for 7 p.m. CT at Scott Gymnasium. Their next action at the Armory won't be until Feb. 4, a day in which they welcome the Minot State Beavers for a 7 p.m. dual.
