Julia Hammerschmidt is entering her third year with Bismarck State College. Hammerschmidt, who has been an integral part of the Mystics' coaching staff since September 2022, brings her experience as a collegiate track and field athlete along with her coaching experience to the forefront in her new role as the Head Coach of the Bismarck State College Track and Field and Cross Country Team.

During her tenure as an assistant coach at BSC, Hammerschmidt specialized in coaching sprint and hurdle athletes. Under her guidance, numerous athletes have qualified for both NJCAA Indoor and Outdoor National meets, showcasing the strength and potential of the team.

 Julia has coached at multiple levels. In 2022 Julia served as the hurdles coach at Bismarck High School. From 2019-2021 Hammerschmidt was an assistant coach at Division II, Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. Hammerschmidt worked primarily with the sprinters and hurdlers. While at Chadron State Hammerschmidt coached the RMAC Conference champion in the 200m and 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m.

Hammerschmidt competed collegiately at the University of Mary. As a student-athlete for the Marauders Track and Field program, she was a 6x All-American in the 100 Hurdles and 4x400 meter relay. She recorded numerous podium-finishes at the NSIC Championships and was a 6x NSIC Champion. Julia graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Mary and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Chadron State College. 

Julia is a native of Hinrichshagen, Germany.
