BISMARCK, N.D. – Quick starts in each half by Bismarck State College led the Mystics to an 88-56 win over the University of Jamestown JV Friday in a nonconference men's basketball game at the Armory.
The Mystics scored the first eight points of the game, then scored the first 11 in the second half to win their second straight game for the first time this season and even their record at 4-4. The Jimmies didn't score in the first 5:30 of the second half. By the time they did, the Mystics had turned an eight-point halftime lead into a 19-point advantage that grew throughout the last 20 minutes.
Deonte Martinez ran the show from the point for the Mystics. He led all scorers with 19 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field and a 5-for-5 showing from the line. He also tossed dished out four assists. Garrett Bader had a pair of 3-pointers and 14 points and Jaden Hamilton chipped in a pair of threes and 12 points. Evan Gross had eight points and five rebounds off the bench for BSC, which outrebounded the Jimmies 44-35.
The Mystics struggled from 3-point range hitting only 6 of 25 shots, but they made up for it inside the arc and finished the night shooting 47 percent. Hunter Thorpe was the only Jamestown player in double figures with 10 points.
The Mystics return to Mon-Dak Conference play with a makeup game against Dakota College at Bottineau Sunday at 2 p.m.
