BISMARCK, N.D. – It took a while for the Mystics to hit their stride, but when they finally did it was lights out for Miles Community College in a Mon-Dak Conference women's basketball game Monday at the Armory.
BSC sophomore guards took control in the second half, led by Sydney Gustavsson, who scored 15 of her 22 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Katherine Fox made four of her five shots in the second half and scored 11 of her 17 points, and Ashton Kinnebrew had seven of her 15 points in the final two quarters.
Sophomore forward Haley Gereau flirted with a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
The Mystics (8-5 Mon-Dak, 11-8 overall) led 29-27 at the half and the Pioneers tied the game just seconds into the third quarter. That seemed to light a fire under BSC, which reeled off the next nine points before working the lead for the rest of the night. It pulled away each time the Pioneers (4-10 Mon-Dak, 7-16 overall) got within a possession of a single-digit deficit.
Miles Community College sophomore India Blyth led all scorers on the night with 30 points. The native of Melbourne, Australia, made 8 of 12 3-point attempts and 10 of 16 shots overall.
BSC is home against Dawson Community College on Feb. 6.
