TUCSON, Ariz. – Bismarck State College concluded its 10-game stay in Arizona Saturday with a 4-0 win over Carleton (Minn.) College JV team. The Mystics went 9-1 in the desert.
Mitch Sand improved to 2-0 on the mound with a four-hit shutout of Carleton. He tossed a complete game, striking out 11 and walking one, while getting 10-hit support for his teammates. JJ Ritter was 3-for-3 with a triple, 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Wyatt Tweet had two hits, including a double, and Brennan Phillips added two hits.
On Friday, the Mystics won a 20-14 slugfest over Abbotsford Cardinals in the first game, then suffered their only loss of the season 9-2 to Pima Community College.
Led by the hitting of Tweet, Ritter and Will Bachman, the Mystics pounded out 15 hits and scored 12 runs against Abbotsford in the last two innings to make a winner of reliever Jadon Moore, who threw 2.2 innings of one-hit relief. Tweet, Ritter and Bachman collected seven hits between them, drove in four runs apiece and scored seven runs. Bachman had a homer. Jordan Tucker, Darion Alexander and Andrew Nievas each scored three times. Four BSC pitchers combined to strike out 12 Abbotsford batters.
Ritter and Tucker continued their hot hitting with two hits each against Pima CC but it wasn't enough to keep the Mystics from suffering their first loss of the season. Pima jumped on the Mystics for four runs in the first inning, then scored three more in the fourth. Bryce Libke went the distance and took the loss, despite giving up just three earned runs. Tweet doubled and scored for BSC and Tucker scored BSC's other run.
BSC's next scheduled games are a doubleheader March 25 at Miles Community College and a twinbill against Miles CC March 26 in Bismarck, field conditions permitting.
