WAHPETON, N.D. – Bismarck State College outshot Dawson Community College from the field and outrebounded the Buccaneers but couldn't overcome a woeful night from 3-point range or a lack of bench scoring Saturday in the NJCAA Region XIII men's basketball semifinals.
The result was a 74-63 loss that brought Kevin Rice's first season as Mystics head coach to a close. The Mystics finished the season 12-17, while Dawson will take on North Dakota State College of Science on Sunday for a berth in the District tournament.
DCC outscored BSC 21-6 on 3-pointers as the Mystics made just two of 17 attempts. Deonte Martinez and Anthony Bertucci had one each. Bertucci led BSC with 19 points despite going 1-for-8 on threes. Jayden Bernard added 14 points and Martinez 13. Bertucci, Bernard and Jaden Hamilton had a team-high six rebound apiece.
Joe Mpoyo led DCC with 23 points and eight rebounds. Chris Davidson and David Ajanaku added 10 points each.
