MILES CITY, Mont. – Bismarck State College's long, strange baseball season came to end on Monday, courtesy of a 9-1 loss to Williston State College in a loser-out game at the NJCAA Region XIII baseball tournament.
Needing a win to stay alive, the Mystics (30-9) lost to Teton starter Dan Conway, who scattered just six hits to pitch his team into the championship against Miles Community College. Conway struck out five in the seven-inning game.
BSC scored its only run in the third inning when Tyler Lewnau stroked a leadoff double and scored on Brennan Phillips' one-out single that tied the game 1-1. Only three other Mystics got into scoring position, while the Tetons broke the tied in the third, added four runs in the fourth and three more down the stretch off a trio of BSC hurlers. Darion Alexander took the loss for BSC.
Phillips had three of BSC's six hits. Lewnau, Jordan Tucker and JJ Ritter had doubles.
Oscar Hargreaves and Josh Stark scored three runs each for Williston State.
The Mystics played all but four regular season and two tournament games in Montana due to snow-covered fields in Bismarck.
