BISMARCK, N.D. – Valley City State used a steady offensive attack and a dominant defensive presence at the net to sweep Bismarck State College 3–0 (25–12, 25–21, 25–23) inside the BSC Armory on Friday afternoon.
The Mystics (4-20, 2-17 Frontier) showed late-set fight in both the second and third frames, but the Vikings (12-13, 10-10) capitalized on a .195 team hitting percentage, 14 total blocks and strong first-contact play to earn the Halloween road victory.

Vikings Control the Net
Valley City State senior middle blocker Morgan Freije led all hitters with 13 kills on .440 efficiency while also contributing six block assists and 16 total points. Outside hitter and Bismarck native Macy Fridgen added nine kills and three blocks, and senior setter Gracie Schumacher guided the offense with 17 assists and four digs.
The Vikings were particularly efficient early, hitting .300 in the opening set and out-killing BSC 14–6. Their defensive pressure never faded—they recorded at least four blocks in every set and held the Mystics to just .023 hitting overall (31 kills, 27 errors on 131 swings).

Mystics Show Late Push
BSC's strongest surge came in the third set, where the Mystics led 22–20 before VCSU closed on a 5–1 run. Sophomore Reese Duchsherer paced BSC with 10 kills but battled nine errors (.026), while Dedra Wood turned in the Mystics' most efficient line with seven kills on .292 hitting. Piper Harris anchored the back row with a team-high 23 digs, but BSC's offense never fully found rhythm against VCSU's block.
