Mystics fall to sharp-shooting Minot State

Houston Davis scores 20. Beavers shoot lights out to defeat BSC in non-conference matchup.

MINOT, N.D. – Mystics men's basketball was at the MSU Dome on Wednesday to face Division-II Minot State (N.D.) for their second game in as many days. The Mystics were seeking their first victory of the season, while the Beavers were hosting their first home game and aiming to improve upon their 1-1 record.

A back-and-forth game after the opening tip saw the Mystics take a 14-13 lead just five minutes into the first half. An ensuing eight-point Beaver run saw Minot State take a lead that they wouldn't relinquish.
Following the early BSC lead, the Beavers proceeded to outscore the Mystics 43-21 to close half one with a 56-33 lead.

The Mystics responded out of the break by scoring 39 in the second half, but the Beavers couldn't miss as they capped off their explosive night in triple digits, as they won by a final score of 105-72.

BSC shot 24-for-59 (40.7%) from the field, including 6-for-24 (25%) from three-point range. Minot State finished 39-for-69 (56.5%), including an impressive 11-for-21 (56.5%) from deep.

The Beavers out-rebounded the Mystics 42-27, and held the edge in second-chance points 19-8 and points in the paint 48-26.

Houston Davis led the Mystics in scoring for his third straight game with 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting (3-for-4 3PT). His brother, Tristin Davis, was right behind him with 14 points, followed by Avery Wesley with 11.

Leon Andersson, in just seven minutes of game time, led the Mystics in rebounds with five and added seven points of his own.

With the loss, the Mystics fall to 0-4, and the Beavers improve to 2-1.

The Mystics return home following Wednesday's game for their home opener and first Frontier Conference games against (RV) Rocky Mountain (Mont.) (3-1, 0-1) and Carroll (Mont.) (2-1, 1-0). Those doubleheaders will start with the women's game at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22.
