Second-half surge lifts Dakota Wesleyan past Mystics

BSC led by Houston Davis double-double in Monday night nonconference action.

BISMARCK, N.D. – Bismarck State men's basketball dropped a 97-58 non-conference matchup to Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at Bismarck High School as both teams returned from the holiday break on Monday evening.

Dakota Wesleyan (7-8, 2-5) seized control early behind efficient shooting and steady offensive execution, building a 50-36 halftime lead before pulling away in the second half. The Tigers shot 48.6% from the field for the game and outscored the Mystics 47-22 after the break, pushing the lead to as many as 40 points late.

Bismarck State (0-12, 0-7) was led by junior forward Houston Davis, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Alex Proctor also finished with 12 points, while William Ware added eight points. The Mystics shot 37.7% from the floor and 27.6% from three-point range.

BSC started the game efficiently, shooting 50% from the field and 46.7% from beyond the arc in the opening half, but struggled to find a rhythm offensively after halftime. Dakota Wesleyan capitalized on 23 Mystic turnovers, converting them into 27 points, while also holding a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint.

The Tigers placed four players in double figures, led by Anthony Riggans with 21 points. Tyson Stevenson added 19 points, while Randy Rosenquist Jr. and Steele Morgan each scored 15. Dakota Wesleyan also won the rebounding battle, 39-33, and received 20 points from its bench.

The Mystics will look to find their rhythm on Wednesday, Dec. 31, in their final non-conference game of the season against cross-town rival, UMary Marauders (4-8, 3-4). Game time on New Year's Eve is set for 1 p.m. from the McDowell Activity Center.

BSC will return to the Armory on Friday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. to host No. 19 Montana Tech and (RV) Montana Western the following night.
