BISMARCK, N.D. – Bismarck State women's basketball opened its first homestand since November on Friday evening with a 96-76 loss to No. 14-ranked Montana Tech inside the BSC Armory.
Montana Tech took control early and never trailed, building a 31-20 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 52-35 at halftime. The Orediggers continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, outscoring the Mystics 28-16 to push the margin to 29 points before BSC mounted a late push.
Bismarck State (1-11, 1-7 Frontier) showed resilience in the fourth quarter, outscoring Montana Tech 25-16 behind improved shooting and energy on both ends, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.
Kennedy Stormer led the Mystics with a game-high 23 points and six rebounds, while Alionna Lawrence added 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including three three-pointers. Kali Dauenhauer and Ashley Martodam each chipped in 11 points, and Aleah McPherson finished with eight points.
Montana Tech (11-1, 7-1 Frontier) shot 48.0% from the field and 45.5% from three-point range, placing eight players in the scoring column. Halle Haber paced the Orediggers with 21 points, while Olivia Nielson added 19 points off the bench. Liv Wangerin contributed 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
The Orediggers held advantages in bench scoring (42-24) and rebounding (49-33), using depth and efficiency to maintain control throughout the contest.
The Mystics will look to rally tomorrow, Jan. 3, as they welcome the Montana Western Bulldogs to Bismarck. The Bulldogs will be the first unranked opponent that the Mystics have faced in their last five conference matchups. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
