BISMARCK, N.D. – Bismarck State wrestling picked up key individual wins but came up short in a 36-16 loss to Division-II Minot State (N.D.) on Tuesday evening at the Armory. It was their first action in 40 days after their most recent dual against Dickinson State.
The Mystics opened the night strong at 125 pounds as Owen Lindstrom earned a dominant 19-6 major decision over Austin Garcia to give BSC an early lead. After Minot State answered at 133, BSC regained momentum at 141 when Kameron Stiffler picked up a forfeit to put the Mystics back in front.
Minot State took control of the dual through the middle weights, winning six straight bouts from 149 through 184 pounds. The Beavers secured four victories by fall during that stretch, building a commanding lead as the dual moved into the upper weights.
BSC found another bright spot at 197 pounds, where Ashton Zimney earned a forfeit victory to add six points for the Mystics. Minot State closed out the dual with a narrow 4–2 decision at heavyweight to seal the team result.
An additional exhibition bout at 133 saw Stiffler deliver a highlight performance, pinning Cole Faircloth at 4:57. Minot State also picked up an extra-bout win at 197.
Bismarck State showed flashes of competitiveness throughout the night, highlighted by Lindstrom's major decision and Stiffler's exhibition pinfall victory, as the Mystics continue to gain experience against regional competition.
The Mystics next action will be this weekend, Jan. 23-34, in Marshall, Mo. as they compete in the Missouri Valley Invite hosted by Missouri Valley College. They'll get started at 10 a.m. Friday from Burns Athletic Complex.
