BSC Holds Off VCSU for 59-55 Road Victory

Mystic women's basketball improves win streak to three.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Bismarck State women's basketball built an early lead and held off a late surge to earn a 59-55 road victory over Valley City State (N.D.) on Tuesday afternoon in Jamestown.

The Mystics set the tone early, using efficient offense to grab a 20-15 lead after the opening quarter. BSC continued to control the pace in the second, knocking down timely shots and limiting second-chance opportunities to take a 38–30 advantage into halftime.

Valley City State responded out of the break, trimming into the deficit as BSC's shooting cooled in the third quarter. The Vikings applied defensive pressure and closed the gap, but the Mystics stayed composed and leaned on their defense to protect the lead heading into the final period.

The fourth quarter saw Valley City State make its final push, cutting the margin to one possession in the closing minutes. Bismarck State answered at the free-throw line, converting key attempts down the stretch to seal the four-point victory.

Kennedy Stormer led BSC with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Aleah McPherson added 13 points, including three shots from beyond the arc. Piper Harris chipped in eight points, and the Mystics finished with a slight rebounding edge while shooting 14-of-17 from the free-throw line.

Bismarck State improves to 5-12 overall and 5-8 in conference play, while Valley City State falls to 5–11 (2–10). The Mystics now have a one-game lead over Bellevue (Neb.) for the eighth seed in the Frontier Conference and are tied with Montana Western for the seventh spot in the standings.

They look to extend their winning streak to four as they return home on Thursday, Jan. 22, to take on the Dickinson State (N.D.) Blue Hawks. The game is set for 5 p.m. at the BSC Armory.
