BISMARCK, N.D. – Bismarck State men's basketball battled back in the second half but couldn't overcome a hot-shooting start from Providence (Mont.) in a 109-97 Frontier Conference loss Friday night at the BSC Armory.
Providence opened the game on a tear, shooting nearly 64 percent in the first half and knocking down 10 three-pointers to build a 59-39 halftime lead. The Argonauts stretched the margin to as many as 27 early in the second half before the Mystics mounted a response.
BSC found its rhythm offensively after the break, shooting 57 percent in the second half and scoring 58 points over the final 20 minutes. Houston Davis and Alex Proctor led the Mystics with 24 points apiece, combining to go 13-of-22 from the field and 18-of-21 at the free-throw line.
Kamayua Black Jr. added 16 points off the bench, while Carter Zeller chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.
Providence was powered by a balanced attack that saw six players score in double figures. Brendan Redhead paced the Argos with 20 points, including five three-pointers, while Quinn Swanson and Marvel Chambers Jr. added 19 each.
Despite the loss, Bismarck State finished 35-of-42 at the line and outscored Providence in the second half, but the early deficit proved too much to erase.
Men's basketball is back at home tomorrow, Jan. 31, for the second half of their weekend doubleheader as they welcome the MSU-Northern Lights (12-8, 7-7). Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Armory.
