JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- Every Bismarck State runner who toed the line Friday either set a personal record or posted a season best at the Jimmie Invitational, hosted by Jamestown (N.D.) at Parkhurst Recreation Area. The Mystic men also notched their best team finish of the fall, placing fourth in an eight-team field.
Men Edge Minot State by a Single Point
BSC scored 132 points, one better than fifth-place Minot State (133), and finished ahead of Valley City State (150), Northern State (151) and Dawson Community College (215). North Dakota State (23) won the team title, followed by Jamestown (45) and Minnesota-Crookston (70).
All six Mystic men ran personal bests, and the pack tightened significantly from the Marauders Home Opener on Sept. 11:
- Junior Michael Pfliger took over as BSC's top finisher for the first time this fall, placing 19th of 65 runners in 27:05.6 over the 8-kilometer course. He shaved 1:24 off his home-opener time.
- Sophomore Xavier Bell followed in 27th (27:19.6), dropping 1:36 from his previous mark.
- Sophomore Derek Oswald placed 30th (27:31.3), improving by 45 seconds.
- Freshman Reid Ressler (39th, 28:14.8) took 1:42 off his time, and sophomore Noah Bedlion (46th, 28:46.3) cut 57 seconds to complete the scoring five.
- Freshman Nathaniel Schumacher, the Mystics' sixth man, ran 28:53.0 for 50th, a two-minute improvement over his Sept. 11 time.
Women Make Strides Over 6K
The Mystic women competed with four runners, short of a full scoring squad, but made the most of the 6-kilometer course in a 64-runner field.
Sophomore Brynn Crane led BSC in 36th place with a season-best 24:42.9, nearly 29 seconds faster than her time at the home opener. Her sister, sophomore Macy Crane, also ran a season best, placing 42nd in 25:09.8.
Freshmen Sundriana Shane and Rutendo Masangwi both set personal records. Shane took 47th in 26:07.9, a full minute faster than her previous race, while Masangwi placed 56th in 29:00.5, trimming more than two and a half minutes from her opener time.
