CASPER, Wyo. -- Bismarck State rodeo closed out a historic week at the College National Finals Rodeo, with Tyler Hansen claiming the national championship in tie-down roping and the prestigious Men's All-Around title, while Parker Sandstrom earned Reserve Champion honors in steer wrestling as the Mystics men's team finished fifth in the nation.

Hansen capped a dominant week in the arena, winning the tie-down roping national title with a four-round average of 38.3 seconds, finishing 1.2 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Hansen opened with the fastest time of the first round at 8.4 seconds, followed with a 10.9 in the second, a 9.1 in the third, and closed with a 9.9 in the short go to secure the title. The performance also earned Hansen the Men's All-Around championship, recognizing the nation's most complete cowboy across multiple events.

Hansen also teamed with Justin Gukenberger of Iowa Central Community College in team roping, and the duo qualified for the short go before finishing 11th nationally with a three-round average of 25.6 seconds, built on times of 11.6, 5.7, and 8.3 seconds.

Sandstrom turned in a standout week of his own in steer wrestling, finishing as the national Reserve Champion with a four-round total of 17.9 seconds, just eight-tenths of a second behind the national champion and 1.2 seconds ahead of the third-place finisher. Sandstrom was remarkably consistent throughout the week, posting times of 3.9, 5.1, 4.6, and 4.3 seconds across the four rounds.

Elsewhere in the arena, TJ Andrews represented the Mystics in bareback riding, finishing 16th nationally with a three-round score of 227.25 points, built on rides of 74.00, 77.00, and 76.25. Freshman Kale Hansen also competed in tie-down roping, posting a 10.2 in the first round before a 19.8 in the second and a no-score in the third left him 28th in the final standings. In team roping, Cael Hilzendeger and Daylon Danks opened with an 11.6 in the first round but were unable to record scores in the second or third rounds, finishing 41st nationally.

The strong individual performances lifted the Bismarck State men's team, under head coach Jon Peek, to a fifth-place finish in the national team standings with 585.0 points. The Mystics finished just five points shy of fourth place and well clear of sixth, 100 points back.

The finish caps a remarkable season for a program that was only brought back last year after a hiatus, making this just its second season of competition. With six athletes qualifying across seven events at this year's CNFR, and now a national title, an all-around crown, a Reserve Champion finish, and a top-five national team standing to show for it, Bismarck State rodeo has firmly established itself on the national stage in short order.
