DICKINSON, N.D. -- Bismarck State volleyball opened Frontier Conference play with a 3-1 loss to rival Dickinson State (N.D.) on Wednesday, falling 25-21, 19-25, 25-22, 25-21 at Scott Gymnasium.
The Mystics dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Blue Hawks improved to 2-6 overall and 1-0 in Frontier action. Dickinson State found success in bursts throughout the match, riding sustained scoring runs in the first, third and fourth sets to evaporate early Mystics leads, and take control of the match.
BSC hit .159 as a team compared to Dickinson State's .149, and actually out-dug the Blue Hawks 88-83 and out-blocked them 15-7 on the night. But the Mystics were outpaced at the service line, tallying just four aces to Dickinson State's eight, and couldn't string together enough consistency to take control of a match that saw wide swings in momentum.

The Mystics continue their opening week of conference play with an additional two road matches this weekend, traveling to No. 19 Bellevue (Neb.) on Friday before closing at Dakota State (S.D.) on Saturday.
