TUCSON, Ariz. – Bismarck State College guard Deonte Martinez led the Mystics in scoring for the third straight game, but it wasn't enough to avoid a third straight desert loss, this one to unbeaten Chandler-Gilbert Community College 67-58 Saturday in the finale of the Aztec Classic.
The Coyotes' bench outscored the Mystics 20-5 as the team improved to 13-0 on the season. The Mystics finished the three-day stay in Arizona 0-3 and return home for one more nonconference game Jan. 8 before diving into Mon-Dak Conference play.
Martinez scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out two assists. In three games in Arizona, the sophomore guard 53 points to lead all Mystic players. Garrett Bader made 4 of 6 3-point shots and finished with 16 points. Jaden Hamilton had 12 points.
Bismarck State next plays host to Northwest College Jan. 8 at the Armory.
