MILES CITY, Mont. – Bismarck State College had a chance to win in regulation and in overtime on Monday, but Miles Community College took charge in double overtime to beat the Mystics 97-88 in a Mon-Dak Conference game.
The Pioneers (7-13 Mon-Dak, 8-21 overall) outscored the Mystics 18-9 in the second overtime after scoring the first eight points of the extra frame. BSC had rallied from a 35-29 halftime deficit to put itself in position to win in regulation.
The Mystics rallied from an early 14-3 hole to tie the game 54-54 before surrendering eight of the next nine points. They rallied again and with 10 seconds left, Deonte Martinez made two free throws to give BSC a 70-69 lead before Denzel Kabasele went coast to coast and was fouled with five second to play. He made one of two free throws to tie it 70-70 and BSC threw the ball away in its offensive end with a second left.
The Mystics (8-11 Mon-Dak, 10-15 overall) tied it 79-79 on a late 3-pointer to force another overtime, but the Pioneers opened the second overtime with nine straight points.
Martinez led the Mystics with 26 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jayden Bernard added 14 points and Anthony Bertucci had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Blessing Adesipe led all scorers with 35 points.
The Mystics' next head back to Montana on Thursday, weather permitting, to play Dawson Community College.
