DEVILS LAKE, N.D. – Bismarck State College sophomore Sydney Gustavsson warmed up for the upcoming Mon-Dak Conference women's basketball tournament by scoring 31 points to lead the Mystics to a 70-58 win over Lake Region State College on Sunday.
The Mystics (13-8 Mon-Dak, 16-11 overall) open the Region XIII tournament March 1 at the Armory. The final four will be played at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton.
Gustavsson scored 20 points in the first half as BSC led by as many as 20 points before settling for a 36-21 lead at the break. The Mystics' lead was double digits throughout the second half. Gustavsson made 5 of 8 3-point attempts and 10 of 20 total shots. She also had seven rebounds and three steals.
Ashton Kinnebrew and Haley Gereau had a double-double apiece. Kinnebrew had 15 points and 14 rebounds and Gereau added 10 points and 15 rebounds. The Mystics outrebounded the Royals 49-35.
Lake Region finished the regular season 11-10 in the conference and 19-11 overall. The Royals got 24 points from Tiziana Huici.
