TUSCON, Ariz. – Bismarck State College picked up where it left off last season, beating Central Lakes College-Brainerd 16-5 in its baseball season opener on Sunday.
Wyatt Tweet lived up to his designated hitter role, pounding out grand slam during the Mystics' -run third inning. Tweet had two hits, scored twice and drive in four runs in the game stopped by the 10-run rule after five innings.
Catcher Brennan Phillips had two hits, doubled and drove in four runs and first baseman Will Bachman had two hits, a double and drove in two runs. Second baseman Riley Pierce scored three runs as BSC banged out 11 hits off of a trio on Central Lakes hurlers, including starter and loser Gavin Gast.
Mitch Sand started on the mound and worked three innings. He gave up three hits and three runs before giving way to Jadon Moore, who worked the final two innings. Sand struck out six and Moore two. They gave up eight hits between them.
BSC is playing Southern California Leadership University in a game that starts at 10 p.m. CDT on Sunday. The Mystics meet Abbotsford University in a doubleheader on Monday.
