BISMARCK – Miles Community College spoiled the home opener for the Bismarck State College women's softball team by sweeping a MonDak Conference doubleheader 11-3 and 6-1 Wednesday at Cottonwood Field.
The Mystics led 3-0 before the Pioneers exploded for 11 runs in the last two innings against Brooklyn Benno in the opener. Malee Wittenberg and Logan Brown had two hits apiece for the Mystics, who had seven hits total. Hannah Fischer had a double for BSC's only extra-base hit.
The Pioneers scored two in the top of the first in game two and never trailed. The Mystics cut it to 2-1 but never tied it or grabbed the lead. The Mystic were limited to one hits, including one by Cambrie Pretzer that drove in Gracie Gunderson with the team's only run in the second inning.
The Mystics go to Glendive, Mont., to play Dawson Community College on April 27 and to Wahpeton to play North Dakota State College of Science on April 29. They return home to meet Williston State College on April 30.
