JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The BSC men's basketball team was in Jamestown on Thursday evening, looking to get into the win column against first-year Division-II opponent, Jamestown (N.D.) Jimmies.
The Mystics got off to a strong offensive start, shooting 51.9% from the field in the first half and knocking down 7-of-11 from beyond the arc as they held a seven-point advantage nearing the final media timeout of the half. The Jimmies responded with a ten-point run over the next four minutes and went into the break with a 43-37 advantage.
Houston Davis led the early push for the Mystics, scoring 18 first-half points.
BSC kept the pressure on in the second half, hitting 56% from the field after the break and continuing to find ways to score inside and out. But, while the Mystics were efficient, Jamestown found its separation behind volume and boards. The Jimmies launched 49 three-point attempts—connecting on 15—and controlled the glass with a 42–30 rebounding edge, including 22 offensive rebounds that led to 23 second-chance points.
Despite a late surge from Davis and guard
Avery Wesley, the Mystics couldn't overcome Jamestown's extended possessions and perimeter volume, falling 85–75.
Davis delivered one of the best performances of the young season, scoring 32 points on 11-for-15 shooting for his second consecutive 30-point game after scoring 33 last week against TBC. He was one board shy of a second double-double as he finished with nine rebounds and two assists.
Wesley added 14 points, and
Tristin Davis chipped in 13 points and four rebounds.
Carter Zeller anchored the interior with six rebounds, three assists and a block.
The Mystics fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Jimmies improve to 2-1.
BSC returns to the court Wednesday, Nov. 19, just 24 hours later, as they travel north on Highway 83 to face Minot State (1-1, 0-0). The Mystics then return home for their Frontier Conference opener, hosting Rocky Mountain (Mont.) and Carroll (Mont.) on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21–22. The men will tip at 7 p.m. following the women's games.
