DICKINSON, N.D. — Bismarck State men's wrestling hit the road Thursday night for a tough dual against fellow Heart of America program, No. 23-ranked Dickinson State, falling 42–5 to the Blue Hawks in a matchup that featured several scrappy efforts despite a veteran DSU lineup controlling much of the action.
Dickinson State opened strong at 125, securing a first-period fall before John Kenney delivered BSC's lone victory of the night at 133 pounds. Kenney was dominant from start to finish, rolling to a 17-1 technical fall in 4:39 over Charlie Irwin to briefly tie the dual at 5–5.
From there, DSU strung together a series of wins, beginning with a tight 16–15 decision at 141 that shifted momentum back to the Blue Hawks. Dickinson State followed with bonus points at 149 and added decision wins at 157 and 165 to extend its lead.
The Blue Hawks continued to pile on late, earning first-period falls at 174 and 285 along with two major decisions and two technical falls through the final stretch.
Despite the final score, the Mystics saw several competitive outings—including narrow battles at 141 and 157—and will look to build on those efforts as the season progresses.
BSC falls to 2-3 with the loss and DSU moves their record to 1-0 in their first dual of the season.
The Mystics will break for the holiday and have just over a month to prepare for their next dual on Tuesday, Jan. 20. That matchup against Minot State will be at 7 p.m. at the BSC Armory. The Beavers prevailed over the Mystics 40-10 in their previous meeting of the young season at the Beaver Bash Duals on Nov. 21.
Make sure to check the men's schedule for information on how to stream and attend the upcoming dual.
