BISMARCK, N.D. – Bismarck State women's basketball ran into a hot-shooting UMary squad on Wednesday afternoon's New Year's Eve showdown, falling 100-59 at the McDowell Activity Center. This game marked the first meeting between cross-town rivals since the Mystics' move to the NAIA.
Mary set the tone early and never relinquished control, opening the game with a 29-16 first-quarter advantage before extending the lead to 52-30 by halftime. The Marauders continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Mystics 29-10 to put the game out of reach.
Bismarck State (1-10) struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm, shooting 22-for-70 (31.4%) from the field and 8-for-41 (19.5%) from three-point range. The Mystics also went 7-for-21 from the free-throw line on the afternoon.
Ashley Martodam led BSC with a team-high 15 points and six rebounds, while Alionna Lawrence finished with 11 points on three made three-pointers. Natalie DeCoteau added 10 points, and Kennedy Stormer chipped in nine points and four rebounds.
Mary (12-4) shot 50.7% from the field and placed 11 players in the scoring column. Chloe Pfau led all scorers with 17 points, including four three-pointers, while Allison Undlin added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Bergen Kinnebrew finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
The Marauders held advantages in points in the paint (48-22), fast-break points (21-1), and bench scoring (44-23), using depth and ball movement to maintain pressure throughout the game.
The Mystics return home in the new year for their first home game in 41 days as they welcome the No. 14-ranked Montana Tech Orediggers (10-1, 6-1 Frontier). That game will tip-off at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, from the BSC Armory.
