BROOKINGS, S.D. – Bismarck State track & field continued its late-season surge Feb. 13-14 at the SDSU Indoor Classic, posting multiple NAIA-ranked performances and personal records against a deep regional field.
Freshman Daniel Oduse delivered a breakout weekend in the sprints. He clocked a personal-best 6.92 in the 60-meter prelims, a mark that ranks No. 87 in the NAIA, before adding another PR in qualifying (7.02). Oduse later returned to run 21.98 in the 200 meters, moving to No. 81 nationally and continuing his rapid climb up the conference and national lists.
Junior Nathan Mathern turned in one of the meet's top performances for the Mystics, placing second in the invitational 400 meters in 48.02. The season-best effort ranks No. 15 in the NAIA, strengthening his position heading toward the championship season.
In the hurdles, the Mystics' women made a strong impact. Dedra Wood ran 9.01 in qualifying, a season best that ranks No. 45 in the NAIA. Freshman Kaylee Narmah also cracked the national rankings, running a personal-best 9.25 that moves her to No. 74 nationally, after posting a 9.18 PR in prelims earlier in the meet.
Alexia Anderson added an eighth-place finish in the long jump (5.51m), while Mercedes Lura cleared 3.30m in the pole vault, to round out BSC's field event efforts.
Competing against strong NCAA and NAIA competition, the Mystics continued to build momentum with nationally ranked marks and late-season personal bests as the indoor calendar approaches its final stretch.
