Mystics Boast Nine Event Victories at Inaugural Frontier Indoor Track & Field Championships

BSC Men's and Women's team each place fourth as Cayden Kraft earns Most Valuable Athlete and Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

BROOKINGS, S.D. — Bismarck State men's and women's teams each placed fourth of the nine teams at the first-ever Frontier Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. The Mystics won a total of nine events on the weekend, highlighted by their sprinters, who set the tone early.

Freshman Daniel Oduse claimed the men's 60-meter title in a personal-best 6.92, earning 10 team points and cementing himself as one of the conference's top young talents. On the women's side, Priviledge Bower matched that effort, winning the 60 in 7.69 before returning to capture the 200-meter crown in 25.09.

BSC's dominance extended into the 400 meters, where sophomore Cayden Kraft blazed to a conference championship in 47.69, a season-best time that ranks No. 7 in the NAIA. Teammate Nathan Mathern followed with a runner-up finish in 48.11, while Timol Walters added valuable points with a fourth-place effort.

Kraft wasn't done.

He returned to win the 600 meters in a personal-best 1:20.10, a mark that now ranks No. 26 nationally, completing one of the most impressive individual weekends of the meet even BEFORE a men's 4x400 relay that was set to run later that afternoon.

The women's 400 and 600 groups were equally strong. Tsitsi Karanda finished second in the 400 (59.08) and later won the 600 (1:37.41), while Aliya Schock and Aisha Zaffino added podium finishes and PRs to bolster the Mystics' team total.

Distance depth proved critical. Xavier Bell took runner-up honors in the 800 with a PR of 1:55.62, and Connor and Jakson Ensign placed second and third in the mile, combining for 14 team points. Jakson later added points in the 3,000.

In the field, Kennedy Harter placed second in the triple jump (11.39m), and was joined on the podium by Alexia Anderson, who secured a third-place finish and a season-best, 11.27m, that ranks No. 33 in the NAIA. Anderson also added a fourth-place long jump finish.

Freshman Mercedes Lura vaulted to second in the pole vault with another personal and school record, 3.40m, moving to No. 33 nationally. Jasmine Nash recorded a 40' 6" mark in the shot put, good for No. 68 nationally.

The Mystics added their first relay championship in the men's 4x800 on Saturday, as Micah Stoudt, Xavier Bell, Jakson Ensign and Connor Ensign combined to win in 7:46.59, a season-best time that ranks No. 24 in the NAIA.

The team closed the championships in emphatic fashion in Sunday's relays, sweeping the 4x400. The men's quartet of Keaton Saastad, Timol Walters, Xavier Bell and Cayden Kraft won in 3:17.40, while the women's squad of Aisha Zaffino, Aliya Schock, Brooklyn Fuller and Tsitsi Karanda matched with a title in 3:58.31.

After the meet, Cayden Kraft was honored for his performance at the meet and over the indoor season. He was named the men's indoor Most Valuable Athlete for his point-scoring ability at the meet, notching 22.5 points for the Mystics. He was also voted by the coaches as the Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for his overall performance on the year, hitting NAIA qualifying standard in three events.

Nathan Mathern and Aliya Schock were also honored after the meet for their leadership and integrity on and off the track, each receiving a Champions of Character award for the 2025-26 Indoor Track & Field season.
