DILLON, Mont. – Bismarck State women's basketball faced off against Montana Western on Friday evening, looking to take the season series from the team they were tied with in the Frontier Conference standings. Instead, the Bulldogs rallied from down 13 to steal an important game in the playoff race, 82-73.
The Mystics started hot, shooting 4-of-10 from deep in the first quarter to build an early 22-16 advantage at the end of one. Quarter two saw them continue their fast start as they built their largest lead of the night at 13 mid-way through the period.
The Bulldogs stayed firm and were able to cut the deficit to seven heading into the break despite shooting 2-of-14 from three-point range. That would be the telling stat in Montana Western's second-half turnaround as they shot an even 50 percent from beyond the arc in the second half to ignite their comeback.
BSC didn't have an answer defensively as the Bulldogs came out of the break to score 54 points and take the 82-73 victory.
Ashley Martodam scored 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting (3-of-5 3PT) to lead the Mystics with 19 points.
Aleah McPherson followed suit with 18 points, and
Kennedy Stormer had a relatively quiet offensive night with 17 points.
Piper Harris finished with 14 points to be the fourth Mystic in double-digits, and
Harper Harris grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, the most of her young college career.
Following Friday's game, the team heads to Butte, Mont., to take on the No. 13-ranked Montana Tech Orediggers (17-4, 13-4), who are fresh off a 79-50 drumming of Dickinson State (N.D.). Gametime is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT (5 p.m. MT).
