BUTTE, Mont. – Bismarck State women's basketball looked to break its three-game conference skid against one of the top dogs in the Frontier, No. 13-ranked Montana Tech, on Saturday evening. The Orediggers proved why they're ranked among the best in the nation as they topped the Mystics, 93-60.
Following Friday's tough loss, the Mystics couldn't get their offense going for Saturday's matchup against MT as they shot 1-of-11 from deep in the first quarter as the Orediggers built a 24-7 lead heading into the second period.
BSC improved upon their rough start, shooting 35 percent from the floor in quarter two, but the Orediggers were an unstoppable force this evening, shooting an absurd 85 percent to build a 51-25 lead into the break.
On a night to forget for the Mystics, they recovered to shoot 50 percent in the final frame, including 5-of-11 from deep. But, it was too little, too late as the Orediggers capped off a statement, 93-60 victory.
Kennedy Stormer led the way for BSC with 22 points on 4-of-10 from beyond the arc, and added eight rebounds and four assists. She was followed in the point totals by her younger sister,
Piper Harris, who recorded nine of her own, and her even younger sister,
Harper Harris, who added six along with seven rebounds.
Kali Dauenhauer and Alionnna Lawrence also chipped in with six points each.
The Mystics fall to 6-12 in Frontier Conference play following the road trip and still hold a one-game advantage over Bellevue (Neb.) and Valley City State (N.D.) for the final playoff spot in the conference. BSC is now two games behind Montana Western for the seventh seed.
Bismarck State now enters their final home stand of the season, which includes the final basketball games played at the BSC Armory before the completion of the Bavendick Center. They welcome Mayville State (1-22, 0-18) on Friday, Feb. 13, and Valley City State (8-14, 5-13) on Saturday, Feb. 14. Tip-off on each night is set for 5 p.m.
