CASPER, Wyo. -- Bismarck State men's rodeo has arrived at the College National Finals Rodeo and showed out in a big way, posting multiple top-10 finishes through the first go round in Casper.

Recent BSC graduate Tyler Hansen highlighted the Mystics' performance by winning the first round of tie-down roping with a time of 8.4 seconds. The round victory puts Hansen in a strong position to make the short go finals as competitors continue their pursuit of national titles throughout the week.

Freshman Kale Hansen also earned a top-10 finish in the event, placing seventh in the opening round with a time of 10.2 seconds.

In steer wrestling, Parker Sandstrom turned in one of the fastest runs of the opening round, tying for third place with a time of 3.9 seconds.

Bareback rider T.J. Andrews continued to climb the standings after opening the week with a 74-point ride in Sunday's first round. Andrews followed with a 77-point ride during Monday's second round, placing third in the round and moving into sixth place in the aggregate standings with 151 points through two rides.

The Mystics also had two teams compete in the opening round of team roping. Header, Tyler Hansen, and Heeler from Iowa Central Community College, Justin Gukenberger, recorded a time of 11.6 seconds, while Cael Hilzendeger and Daylon Danks matched the mark at 11.6 seconds. Both teams are tied for 22nd after the first round.

Bismarck State qualified six athletes across seven events for the national finals, continuing the program's rapid growth in just its second season of competition.

Competition resumes Tuesday morning with second-round slack action featuring Tyler Hansen and Kale Hansen in tie-down roping, Sandstrom in steer wrestling, and both BSC team roping entries. Tuesday night's performance will feature Andrews in the third round of bareback riding and Tyler Hansen in the third round of tie-down roping.

Additional third-round competition is scheduled throughout the week, with the top 12 competitors in each event advancing to Championship Saturday.
